What’s working

Glass the dark timber edges at first lightLocate bugles, then move on the windHunt mule deer high in the basins early
The high country is starting to wake up. We are hearing the first bugles at dawn in the dark timber, and the bulls are moving as the mornings turn cold. Mule deer bucks are still up high in the basins, feeding early and bedding by mid-morning, so the glassing has been excellent right at first light. Weather has been clear with frost most mornings — bring layers, it is cold before the sun gets on the slopes. Water is good everywhere. If you have a September tag, this is the stretch to be here.
